Cork Design Week: 1st to 9th November

Design Week 2008 set to Showcase the City's Creative Edge

After taking Cork by storm in 2007 Cork's Design Week is back and going to be bigger and better. Design Week Cork is part of IDI’s national design week and celebrates.

The main purpose of Design Week is to highlight the important contribution good design makes to the cultural and economic life of Ireland through fostering a reputation for creative excellence and innovation. By concentrating a large number of design events over the short period of a week in November the aim is to focus attention on a selection of the best design activity throughout Cork and Ireland.

This year’s Design Week Cork has a sustainable message. It focuses on issues that will affect Cork’s future development and how good design and on open minded public can drive a progressive and better designed built and social environment for all.

We have an extensive programme of events highlighted by the central exhibition in the SubStation, ReForm Sustainability Seminar and the Film festival in the Gate Cinema.

Last year was the Design Week in Cork ever and incredibly successful. Nearly 5,500 took part in all the events. Almost 2000 people visited the exhibition of all demographics. 800 people attended the Film Festival. 60 people attended the architectural tour

Models and volunteers strutted their stuff in gear by Positively Eight Street, Belleetik, Riding Pretty, and Cycle Chic, and wheeled some ultra-cool push bikes by the likes of Johnny Loco, Retro Velo, and Viva Cycles.

See http://www.cyclechic.org for more details about the event and a soon-to-be-released video of the show.
